A CRAZY? idea for a rear deck subwoofer install (LS430)
Hi guys. I haven't posted on this board in a while, so I'm kind of out of touch with the whole stereo system game. I just picked up a 2004 LS430 UL and I find myself laughing at times at the output of the stock Levinson subwoofer.
I used to have a 1993 LS400 with a car series Velodyne servo sub (which I unfortunately blew 1 week after installing it - and had to sell the scrap parts on ebay). I was thinking since these are virtually impossible to find nowadays, what is to stop me from taking a sealed home Velodyne servo sub and then mount it upside down on the rear deck with a custom baffle? It will fire through and be sealed to the stock sub opening. The power output is tremendous and I know I'll lose quite a bit of trunk space.
Is it easily convertable to 12volt system (not sure if I can run it with an inverter)? What impedance is the input and does that play a role in the install?
I think it will be an awesome setup along with Morel 3-way speakers and full sound deadening of the car. Plus my friend is selling his McIntosh 4000M

BTW..I just became a sponsor, so I'll be saying hi to you guys again soon
