Default amp/speaker question

okay, i have a 92 sc300. on my car, i have the stock stereo system in there. when i put my computer in, i will be removing the headunit, stock cd changer, and stock amp. i have a kenwood amp that i have already hooked up to my system for my sub. also, i didnt hook this up, the previous owner did, so i have pretty much no knowledge on how an audio system really works. now, i have a couple of questions.

-when i tried to test how i would make the sound system work, i purchased a spare speaker for like $8, along with some speaker wire. so i hooked up my speaker to my amp, then plugged my ipod to the amp via an rca cable, and leaving my sub connected as well, and all i got was bass coming out both speaker and sub. now the sub, i understand produces bass, but how about the speaker? why is that playing only bass and no music? i have a kenwood kac-7252. and its a 2 channel amp.

-my other question is, since i have a stock amp, and the stock speakers are connected to that, can i just splice the wires from the stock amp to my kenwood amp, that way i wouldnt have to take apart my whole car to remove the old wires/cables, and rewire them to the new amp?

thank you in advance for any help!

okay, i have stock stereo system in there.
hooked up my speaker to my amp,
How? low level converter into RCA in on the amp?

then plugged my ipod to the amp via an rca cable,
the amp only has one set of inputs for RCA how do you have both IPOD and Speakers connected at once? Y jacks?

The other sets or RCA is an OUT -> to another amp

i have a kenwood amp that i have already hooked up to my system for my sub. also, i didnt hook this up, the previous owner did,

The previous owner probably taped the SUB out of the STOCK AMP -> LOW Signal converter-> Sub in on your kenwood. All you have to do is trace the rca from the kenwood to where the low line converter is.

i hooked up my speaker to my amp, then plugged my ipod to the amp via an rca cable,
How is the AMP wired?
2chanel, Mono?
Where did you tap your spare speaker?
Careful or you might fry something

and leaving my sub connected as well, and all i got was bass coming out both speaker and sub.

now the sub, i understand produces bass, but how about the speaker? why is that playing only bass and no music?

Because your amp might be configured w/ a crossover and that is the correct configuration for what the amp is driving. Meaning you would have to re-configure your amp to drive both SUB and Full range speakers

Yes via the low line converters like these.

Number of Channels: 2
General
URL: Manufacturer Link
Depth: 11.3 in
Height: 2.4 in
Min Frequency Response: 50 Hz
Max Frequency Response: 200 Hz
Warranty Information: 1 Year Limited Warranty
Number of Channels: 2
Width: 11 in
Bridging: Yes
Peak Power Output: 1000 W
THD at Rated RMS Power (Unbridged): 0.8 %
Weight: 12.8 lbs
The specs on the amp say 2 Chanel w/ bridging YES.

So if this amp is running the sub most likely it is in MONO Bridged with a low crossover setting for the SUB.

Now go buy a 4 Chanel amp to run your front and rears
