Hey guys, I just installed a radio into my car and there seems to be a buzzing noise that correlates with the car engine's rpm. The buzzing gets higher pitched and faster sounding when the car rev's higher, and slower and lower pitched when the car idles. The radio supposedly comes with a power filter box thing that is attached to the power leads of the radio. It seems to be getting it's ground connection from the metal casing of the radio rather than the negative wire because the radio started running before I even attached the ground wire. Any help guys?
you have what is called ground loop. check your wiring to make sure that the power wires and rca are not next to each other. Check headunit. HAve a professional install it, or if you did go back and have it done properly.
does the term "alternator whine" come from this(wiring wires too close). my brother is into audio stuff and told me about this, but said he does not have a resolution to this problem.
usually re running the wiring and using better shielded wires is the only way but they sell ground loop isolators that do have a minimal effect to reduce whine, I do not recommend these though.
Had the same problem when I installed my Sirius radio via a Viatech adapter. Had it professionally installed and it was terrible so when I got it home I took it all apart and rewired it all. The solution to the engine noise was to run a common ground from the Sirius receiver and the Viatech housing to the common ground point inside the dash. After that, all noise completely stopped. Been working great for a year now.
i never done that so far . i havent gotten any rpm buzzing. it makes me wonder if its a myth or not lol. but im happy my thing doesnt buzzz or i would be pissed lmaooooo. i run all my rca cables, speaker wires, and power wires on the same side.
reroute your cables like everyone is saying. if it countinues concider useing some noise suppressor. this will cancel out the rpm/altonator sounds when you are on the gas. "mobile authority" is what i had in my car in the pass cuz i was lazy.
