yes i have done both the 98 factory nav and 2004 factory nav into a 98n gs300. it makes quite a nice addition to put in the 2004 dvd computer nav . at resale time you will have a muich easier sale with factory nav installed. aftermarket navs actually hurt resale value.

the hardest part is getting the ac controls to function. here is picture where old ac on top of nav unit working. it took quite a bit of time to do the wiring harness correctly.but it is worth it when done. the lexus premium with pioneer amp easier to do than the nakamichi but i know one person who switched to nakamichi to pioneer amp and used wires going back to nak amp in trunk to use for the gps computer wiring. the pioneer amp is to the right of the glovebox so easy to tap the right speaker wires for the voice nav.

dro15, i will just answer on the forum as other owners may be having the same problem. dro15 is having a problem where factory gps cant find exact location of his 2001 gs430. the most probable cause is the computer laser is getting weak as that was problem with those first year 2nd generation computer gps units going out after 7 years.
but it could be the disc either it is dirty and could use a disc clean . or the laser is dirty again a laser disc cleaning disc may help. or just getting a gen 2/3 updated disc may help. not necesarily a 7.1 but at least a gen 2/3 4.1 original disc to see if it improves the situation. an original would be best as a copy is even harder to read for an older computer.
if none of that works than upgrading to a newer 3rd or 4th generation computer would be best . just not one from an lexus is300 or toyota avalon which are joystick computer and not touchscreen so not compatible with your lexus. the dealer will only want to refurb your second genration computer (1500.00)so i wouldnt waste money on that. a good used third generation computer from a seller with a guarantee that it will work is best. do not buy any from sellers who say thier gps computer works but sold as is. "as is" a euphenism that it doesnt work.

Is that what it is? The laser not being able to read the disc will cause the GPS to show you in a different location? Will try and clean it up. Thanks

So upgrade to 01+ navi can be done but have to contain the AC control unit separately also?

Also, does 01+ navi have Canada maps? my 98 navi doesn't (if it can show Canada cities, can you teach me how?), which I live in Canada. -_-"
