Need your help. Is this a good deal?
Hello, I want to put in a little more kick to my stock sound system by adding some subs and I found this ad. Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal or not? I'm planning on installing it on my 2nd gen IS w/o ML. Will the box be a good size? How much will professional installation cost?
Here are the Sub and amp specs
"Condition: used
2 12" JL W3v2s in a sealed box (14" x 13" x 31")
The subs work perfectly. They are rated at 300W RMS each, I was running them wired in parallel to a 500/1 Rockford Fosgate amp -silver color
Manufacturer Sku: 12W3V2
Brand: JL Audio
Model: 12W3V2
Size: 12 in
Number of Components: Dual
Power Type: Passive
Voice Coil: Dual
Sensitivity: 86.7 dB
Nominal Impedence: 3 Ohms
RMS Power Handling: 300 Watts
Top Mount Depth: 6.56 in"
For $275
TIA

Those subs are good. You should be real happy with them provided you have a good amount of power and they are in good shape and they are in a box to spec. That power ratting is a little on the soft side as well. When I was installing the JL's I would feed 1000 watts to a pair of W3's in most cases.

what model rockford fosgate are you running. than we can figure out if it reachin full specs of the jlw3. mostly i would just pick up the sub and bump up for a lil bit stronger amp because i believe the rockford is pushing 500 watt rms. the subs need 600 watt rms for both. so your underpowering it. i rahter have it 100 watt over powered than 100 watt under power. i had two 12w3v2 on a jl 500/1 amp yea i fried that bad boy. so i picked up a PPI D2000/1 amp.

So now i found out that the amp was sold and he person only has subs...will i still be able to get a clean sound out of those subs with a good amp? I'm more into clarity than loud bumping. Can anyone make any suggestions on amps?

You better off with a different amp anyways. The rockford stuff is alright but not very clean power. Just look for a good clean amp and your set. I would look for around 1000 watts. You can get by with less but those subs will take it all day long and give you head room as well.

it depends. 1000w advertised is not the same as 1000w in real-time.
You can hook up an amp that has a potential of 1000w rms, but the actual power the sub receives is dependent on many other things. You're not always sending the subs 1000w despite what the amp label says. Your power level is low when your volume is low. Turn up your volume **** and the headunit will send more voltage to the amp, thus the amp amplifies the larger signal. In return, your volume goes up. My point is, it all depends on your volume. I'm sure if you're hearing nasty sounds in the back, you'll want to turn down the volume level.
Also, 1000w thermally and 1000w mechanically is totally different. Give me a W3v2 and I can blow it with 200w. Or give me the same sub with 400w, and I wont blow the sub
