What does it exactly mean?

Well anyways, I will be replacing my front 4" speakers with 6.5"s and they will be powered directly by the alpine headunit (4x50 rms). With the 6.5"s, I noticed there are a lot more speakers to choose from (only considering non components) and I don't know which #-way to choose. What should my choice be?

edit: oh, and can you recommend me a decent set of 6.5"s? I need a good set, but nothing over the top pricewise.

Ok, i did some searching, and some people said that anything beyond 2-way for a coaxial is just gimmick. Is that true? So there is no need to spend more money for 3 or 4 way over a 2 way?

edit: still need some recommendation. I'm looking for something that will produce strong mid/low range.

Unless there is a dedicated crossover for each driver, I wouldn't go over 2-way. The more sound source you have, the harder it is to make it sound natural, at least for triaxials and anything with more drivers.

A good set of 2-way will sound great.

i'd just go 2 way. the size of the drivers in a 3 or 4 way coaxial is a joke.
