Show your stereo skills
OK fellas,
Im trying to do something with my sc400's stereo. I believe my amp has taken a dump or the woofer is blown. I want to go aftermarket but have no Idea where to start. I just need some ideas to get the project going. If you don't mind can some of you post pictures of you stereo installs in your SC's. I would really appreciate it
STUCK NEED INPUT!

I was in the same boat as you 10 months ago. For the head unit, you have the option of going a single DIN cd player, or (in most cases for SC owners), go with a double DIN screen with cd/dvd player. For the speakers, the stock speakers front and back are 4"ers, and can be replaced with larger ones. I did 5 1/4 in the fronts components, and 6 1/2's in the back. Custom work had to be done. Oh and I replaced them with Alpine Type R's...VERY RECOMMENDED if you got the dough. Cheapest place to get speakers are on ebay, no joke. Get them brand new in box for half the price of the store or crutchfield. For the sub, you may go with a slim design subwoofer that can fit in the stock position (like from Elemental Designs, I have the SQ10). You can go with woofers in the box that go in the truck but you will be robbed of trunk space guaranteed; and you will also need a separate amp just for the subs. Otherwse if you go with a sub that goes in stock, save yourself the trouble and get a 5 chan amp. I have a Kicker zx700.5 that powers the car. All in all, I got everything on ebay as a discount for roughly 1300 and labor was 860.

you can get SC specific front speaker spacers on eBay for 20 bucks plus shipping. they convert the crappy Lexus 4" to 6.5" hole. the rears are also about 4" but you can make a spacer to fit 5.25" speakers. i will post pics of my setup tomorrow. i took off the trunk cover that hides the gas tank and placed a 1/2" mdf board and mounted the amps to that. i also made a kit to mount my alpine deck and make it look pretty good. its too and late and cold
out to do it right now
this is my setup:
5.25" infinity kappa perfect front components
5.25" infinity reference rear components
alpine cda-7998 headunit....probably the best sounding head unit i have ever owned...and i have owned a lot
polk momo c400.4 4ch amp
polk momo c500.1 mono sub amp
kicker CVX 12" sub box
alpine XM tuner box....with free lifetime suspension
all monster wiring
and also a DEI remote start with window mods....on a 5sp
i work at circuit city in the install bay so i did all the work myself
when i post the pics hopefully it will give you a direction to go in.

not sure if wiring colors changed or not from year to year, but if they did your year will mater
otherwise, the oem headunit type matters.
that is, if instead of looking for what you can do with speakers and headunits, you are looking for how to wire in a headunit.
you can wire the headunit to use the ***** in the trim, or operate independently. Using the Repair Manual's wiring diagram, the install isn't too bad.

Mistake
I posted it in the SC forum because I really only wanted pics of SC's. My mistake. I thought that was where I should put it. Anyway thanks for the input. Anyone got pics or more thoughts on the sub configuration? I can't seem to find a free air 10" sub here in town. And I really don't want to cut the car up.
Plans:
Dbl din head unit
5 channel amp
4in speakers front
5 1/4 rear
#stuck on the sub --- I dont want loud --- I want clear-- One10" or 12" is fine for me. I just want it to look clean without losing too much trunk space. I would rather not see the sub. That d@** gas tank in in the way!
Your thoughts are alway appreciated!
