Best Sub Location for 2nd Gen GS!!
I recently installed a system in my '00 GS400. I've had a few requests for pix so I figured I'd post a couple up.
This setup gave me amazing sound quality, and I have absolutely no rattles inside and out. I dunno how people can live with just plopping their subs in the trunk and opening up the stock sub hole.
My setup:
- JL 10w6v2 in a .625 cubic foot sealed box
- JL 6.5" C5 components up front
- MB Quart 6.5" midbass woofers in rear.
- Phoenix Gold 5 channel amp, 50x4 + 250x1 rms
So to install the sub I did the following:
- removed rear seat
- removed rear deck support bars
- cut a hole in the trunk carpet and stock sound deadening.
- carefully test fitted the box and made some cuts in the leather behind the back seat arm rest.
- Bolted the box down to the chasis once it was in place
I initially tried to just tuck the leather behind the sub, but this turned out to be too difficult, and I couldn't get a good seal around the sub. So I just decided to fold the leather at the edge of the sub and screw it down to the box. Staples would have looked better, but they wouldnt penetrate the MDF.
I was extremely satisfied with the results. Awesome sound, no rattles, and IMO a pretty cool sight to see the sub thumping right behind you in the cabin.

The arm rest can be put back up no problem. The leather was pulled back towards the sub-box when i screwed it down, so there is plenty of room.
I just don't play the sub if I have 5+ people in my car.. otherwise I keep the armrest down.

im sure you got nice SQ but the install job isnt looking to good! i mean if you look at it it looks like spaghetti wires you know? But that all can be fixed like somone else stated like making that false walll! And if its possible can custom mount the sub IB in the rear deck and mount the amp to the rear seat. Looks more cleaner and you save yourself ALOT of truck space

Lol you're totally wrong. Best sound quality is achieved with the sub moving the air directly by your ear, not in the trunk. The more stuff you have inbetween the speaker and your ear... the more distortion and vibrations you will have.

negative on that one. the woofers are suppose to face the rear and have the sound waves bounce to the front........... not directly facing your ear....... i think you would have had the same effect if you just placed the JL in the place of your stock woofer instead of cuttin up the sea, just problly help tone down the rear deck rattle a bit your way.
This ain't a show car and no one looks in my trunk, My audio sounds awesome, and thats all I care about. I was only showing my 'spaghetti' to show how the box sits in the trunk.
