Anyone knows where I can get something like the Avic Z2 but froman other brand then Pioneer?
I think their products are horrible.

I went on to find out more about it.
It costs over $1000 but you only get a headunit.
No amps no CD changers.
It says in the features that it has Dolby 5.1 output.
So I go like Yeah that'smore reason for me tobuy that.
But......
They don't make amps for 5.1 inputs yet for cars.
So there is a feature I can't never use.
I'mlike there'sgotta be an amp for this stereo.
I go to the LocalPioneer shop.
What do they tell me?
I need to hook up the headunit directly to the speakers using the measly 50 watts X4 output it has.
I tell the guy I drive a Lexus not a Geo Metro.
THey tellme we got amps but you won,t get anty with Dolby 5.1.
I'm Still optimistic.
I go on their webside trying to find a Forum.

So I give up.
I'm happy that I didn't spend money on that crap I was going to get stuck with.
But I still need help finding something formy car.
I remember back in 1997 when my mom bought a simpel Stereo system for her car.
It came with cd changer and everything.
Now you pay a lot of money just for a stupid headunit.

Because people don't want to buy something to get stuck with later.

I think you need to do a little more research about these kind of headunits before bashing them or the entire company. First of all they're expensive because the technology is still quite new and they're usually referred as multimedia headunits meaning they can do more than just play music. You mentioned the z2 and this models plays not only CD's, MP3's, WMAs but DVDs as well. It has the ability to copy the music from your CDs to its internal hard drive so you'll never need to load them again. Most important of all it has Navigation builtin and this is where the majority of cost comes from. Yes, it may not come with any changers or seperate amplifiers at that price but that just goes to show that this unit is out of your price range. If all you need is a headunit that plays cds, mp3s, can connect a cd changer and a seperate amp you can easily get a decent system for around $500. But if you want navigation, large touch screen, play dvds, bluetooth...ect you'll have to pay the price.

As for the 5.1, I agree that its a pretty useless feature. Not that there are no 5.1 ampiliers but because everyone in the car is sitting pretty much off center to the front speakers so a good surround sound effect is hard to achieve. If you really want 5.1 you can use a 6 channel amp and there are plenty of those on the market.
