Default What size speakers are in a 97 sc400?

I did a search and it looked like most people are saying the front and rear speakers are 4''. On the circuitcity and crutchfield website it says the 4'' will not fit. I just want to buy replacement speakers that will bolt right in. What size do I buy?

okay circuit city website is wrong half the time. i work there and i can confirm that. the factory speakers are 4" front and rear. i made templates for the rear and installed 5.25". removed the whole speaker box in the front, made a template, and installed 5.25 components up front. you can put 6.5" all around if you wish.

they are 4inch, but why crutchfield and CC say wont fit, is they are in a pod (front) and in a mounting plate (rear), but as long as you disassemble the old should be able to put new in fine, if unsure, take one in and be like i need this size !

Yea i put 6.5 in my spots, had to trim a bit of the back deck, but they are in there now.

I upgraded my speakers, rear are 6.25" and fronts are 6.5". No modification needed expect for drilling some holes.

So I should be able to put 5.25 or 6.5 by just drilling some holes. I wont need to cut a bigger template or break out the dremel?

Well I have Pioneer 6.25" in the rear. From what I read some people modify them to make it fit. But when I got around to installing my speakers it was a direct fit. In the front like someone mention earlier its a Pod so any size speakers will fit as long as drill some holes it should fit.

ebay has some custom pods that you can buy to directly fit 6.5's in the front with no mods , but as some say, just test fit a couple sizes.

I'm not sure if there's enough space but if there is you could try a thin spacer to hold the speakers in place (front). In the back a 6.5" speaker was a direct drop-in. I fitted 6.5" fronts by making a new mounting board.

Anything other than a 4" speaker won't be drop in. Trust me. If all you want to do is pop in new speakers, stick to 4". 6.5" will fit in back if you get rid of the pods and depending on speaker, drill out your rear deck a little. The front door pods... aren't friendly to modding. Either get the wood pods from ebay, or make your own. But trying to fit larger speakers in the door pods is unnecessary labor.
