Please help, audio wiring for '96 LS
For a 1996 LS400. I am in the middle of audio install (remove the central consol, front seats, rear seats, dashboard lower panel, radio HU), and found that the wiring harness provided by the crutchfield did not fit. So I have to hard wire everything.
I bought a JVC HD radio head unit from Crutchfield. There are two plugs for the antenna (bigger one and smaller one) and the OEM HU has two holes for these two plugs. But the JVC HU only has one hole for the bigger plug.
Questions:
1. What is the smaller plug for?
2. How do I run power to the antenna? Where to feed to power (the constant 12V and turn-on signal)?
3. Also, Where are the good places to tap for the Constant 12V, and turn on power?
thanks.

yea the crutchfield harness doesnt work. i havent found a wire harness for the UCF20 LS400 yet. so instead i splice through my whole stock wiring because i knew i wasnt going to put the stock stereo back. that i will never sell my car .
heres mi wire diagram
i never used the small mini antenna plug only the big one that goes into the deck.
i used the p cont on my pioneer deck. which means that if i turn on my deck the antenna will go up and what not. but if i turn it off it will go back down. not sure if they have that on the jvc deck. if you take a picture of the wires for the jvc i think i can tell you which wire to use

Plus a note:
The Crutchfield's toyota/lexus wiring harness does not work in a 96 LS400 although the Tech there claimed that it works. They must have the wrong information in their computer system.

I did have good experience with CF before. But this guy I talked to was simply very bad. He told me I should have 5 plugs to the amp under the passenger seat (4 should be correct), I told him four. He said five, again and again.

i dont think they know a lot about 95 - 97 ls400. they expect it to be the same with the 1990 - 1994 ooo well. i learned the hard way . we UCF20 just got to hard wire stuff. but they are really good about other stuff like my moms camry and what not

What I did:
1. Constant 12V power source for the aftermarket head unit: from OEM amp wire 12V (under the passenger site seat) since it allows higher current than the OEM radio receiver does (20 A vs 7.5A).
2. Ignition 12v and ground source: from the OEM receiver wireharness.
3. Connect the after market remote wire (the blue one) to all three wires for antenna in the factory wires, just like what PD said.
4. The aftermarket amps (alpine 3555 and alpine MRP-M350) were placed in the trunk. Three555 was bridged to power the front door speakers only. The rear door speakers were powered by speaker level outputs of HEAD unit. MRP-M350 already blew the OEM sub.
5. Rout RCAs under the carpet, next to the console on driver side. There are two holes (driver and passenger side) that enter the trunk. They are next to the factory wires entering the trunk. You will find it when you remove the backseat.
5. Constant 12V for the amps: from the battery, to under the car next to exhaust catalytic converter (keep distance), to floor grommet just under the driver seat and enter the cabin, then goes under the carpet, to the driver side hole (mentioned above), and enter trunk.
6. Rout speaker wires from the trunk, through the passenger side hole and enter the cabin, connect the wires to the OEM speakers wires under the passenger seat. I also routed a set of speaker wires that go to the front doors directly for future biamping purpose.

I'd like to get clarification on what you guys did for the power antenna system.
If I understand correctly, you connected all three power antenna wires, ANTA, ANTB and ANT+ to the remote/antenna connection on the aftermarket HU? Is this correct?
