Default Advice mounting tweeters in SC

Hey all I bought some CDT componants which I installed in my sc300. The problem was they are 1" tweeters and were too big to use the factory tweeter mounts. I completely removed the mounts to fit them but the way they fit now, they basically face more towards the windshield and cant hear them as well. (sounds alot better when I put my head near the steering wheel =p) I ws wondering if anyone else had a similar problem and how they mounted them. I was thinking maybe another spot but I dont think it would be as clean. Also was thinking about modiying the speaker grills on the door panel for the tweeter. I could also probably buy a smaller tweeter and use the factory mounts. What do you all think?

I have 1" Phoenix Gold tweeters that I mounted in a modified factory tweeter grill. I'll try to take some pics tonight.

Thanks those pics would be very helpful. Im trying to see if I can modify the grill but without changing anything on the front so it looks stock. Thanks!

I was sitting in my car waiting for class today and was thinking about how I could fix my problem. I took off the grill and even with the tweeter pointing the wrong way it still sounded 2x better. I think the very small grill in the actuall plastic is keeping ALOT of sound from getting out. Now im pretty convinced for it to sound really good im going to some how mount the tweeter with a clear path to the ears. I was thinking of modifying the tweeter grill by maybe cutting a hole large enough to mount the tweeter "outside" of the grill but I dont know how good it will look. I think the second best place to mount them would be the a-pillar but I think that would look pretty bad. Any other ideas?

Hey Billy, Im at work now so I cant send any pics right now. However, my tweeters are not stock appearing at all. I removed the grill cloth from the grill, drilled a 1" hole into the plastic and seated the tweeter flush onto the face of the plastic. I'll try to send pics when I get home.

This is exactly what I was thinking about doing. I was thinking even as far as a little fiber glass and maybe wrapping it in black vinyl to wrap it and maybe it match the rest of the interior. Id rather it look non stock than to sound how it does now. Those pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

See how it sounds if you reverse the connections of positive and negative of ONE tweeter, and then both tweeters.

The problem isnt the polarity. The problem is the plastic is blocking too much sound. Two days riding around with no grills has proven this. I am thinking now about removing the mesh fabric, cutting a 1.5 inch hole and recovering it to see if it helps

Thanks for posting! That looks really clean. I like the way your tweeter looks better than mine too.

Thanks Billy, that was the only way I could think of to mount that large tweeter in a small space. It sounds great and its not obstructed by the grill.

Can you get a link to the pics? I searched and could not find it. I also want to have a look at them.

I am currently in the process of putting MD100 tweets in my LS400 factory twts locations.
