Removing the Stock Integrated Cell Phone?
This SC400 has the Lexus cel phone in the arm rest and seems to be very integrated into the sound system and controls on the wheel. Since this was an old Analog phone it cannot be used with current digital phone service so this thing is useless to me. However the beeping every time I turn on the car or accidentally hit the steering wheel controls is annoying.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to remove the phone from the car without damaging the electrical or sound system?

Gotta love the early 90s with their car phones. A while back when I was looking at SCs, I test drove a 94' SC400 which had the indications of a removed car phone. Unfortunately, the removal left some rather ugly holes in the center console and bezel. Its possible to remove, but I would suggest also shopping on eBay for a replacement console/bezel that doesn't have the holes in. With a beige interior, it really looked ugly. That was just one of the reasons why I didn't buy that car.

I have been wondering if we could wire in any accessories to where the factory cellphone would have gone. Been curious ever since looking at the audio wiring diagram for the car, and seeing the schematic show the lines for the factory cellphone where they run into the audio system. I didn't look far enough to see what is possible -- maybe a hands free kit, gps audio, or something.
My car doesn't have the buttons on the wheel, nor the phone, but I can see the (intact) punchouts in the bottom of the center console for where the phone would have been attached on earlier years.

The 98-00 LS400 has a phone handset connector under the rear of the console on the drivers side that has power and an audio mute. The 95-97 LS has at least a mute pin in a similar connector.
It is possible that 97 SC has a similar handset connector under the console.
All I had to do to make my 2000 LS400 radio automatically mute when a phone call comes in was to attach my phone kit's mute wire to the middle front pin on the drivers side connector under the console - just stripped a quarter inch off the wire, stuck it in the connector and secured it with a wire tie.
Since the pre-98 connector seems to be different, the mute pin can be found by probing the connector pins with an unpowered, grounded test light while the radio is on. When you touch the probe to the mute pin, the radio with mute.
