Default How come my sub mounting idea did not sound good at all?

My plan was to mount a sub enclosure underneath the rear deck with the sub firing through the stock sub hole into the cabin. Well I purchased the sub (IDQ10 v3), had sealed box custom made with the proper dimensions and had the box plopped up to how it will be when mounted. I then tested it with a few bass heavy songs. I got little or no bass output. I moved the box back down and left it sitting on the trunk floor. It actually sounds a lot better this way.

So why did it sound like crap when firing through the stock hole? I know many people on here mounting a sub "freeair" and sounded pretty good yet when I use a box, it doesn't? Doesn't make sense.

Question

Your missing alot of information in regards to what your system consists of..What kind of amp, what is the size of your box..And at what low pass freq. are you running the sub at..All these things will determine how your sub will sound..

Try reversing your polarity.

Perhaps have the sub firing toward the back of the car and have a port (hole) facing up into the stock sub location?

Interested in this thread, I plan on doing the same thing.

Amp - Elemental Designs nine.5 (100w x 4, 600w x 1 @ 1ohm)
Sub - IDQ 10" v3 2ohm DVC (final load of 1ohm)
Box - Shallow sealed box with about 1.1 cubic ft
80hz cutoff fq

As I have mentioned it sounds good sitting on trunk floor but if the box is held up so that the sub fires directly through the stock hole there's little bass output.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Well I got the box custom made to within specs of the sub for a sealed box. I can't just cut a hole anywhere on the box cause it will throw the specs all off. To do what you said I would have to redesign and have a new box made specially for port use with proper port size and length.
