The stock SC stereo - can it play anything but regular CDs?
My stock SC stereo works like a charm when it comes to playing retail CDs ... but most of my music is in MP3 format. I have a small MP3 player and a CD adapter that I use with the stock Nakamichi CD player.
I tried burning (MP3 to CD audio) some CDs worth of music and putting them in the stock CD magazine in the trunk but when I try to play the burnt CDs all I get is an "ERR" or error.
Other than using a CD adapter and buying a whole bunch of CDs how do you get around the fact that you are dealing with really old audio technology in most SCs? In my perfect world I would be able to burn my MP3s to CD audio, put the CDs in the magazine and play them ... but of course this does not work.
How do you play your fav music in your beloved SC?
Note: I wish to retain the old audio hardware as I wish to remain as "stock" as possible. Replacing the old stereo is out of the question.
Any feedback on a possible solution is much appreciated ...

I have a '93 and burned to CD audio and got the error message. I will try your suggestion and report back with the results ...

wave format definitely is read by the factory 93 changer. when my changer was still connected it use to read burned cd's no problem. go to the folder that your music is in and click the "copy all items to audio cd." this will bring up the windows media player and you can burn the music that way.

It's got something to do with the burning itself there is a difference when a cd is recorded proffesionally and when a cd is burned the changer has to read it in a different way.
Most cd players made after the year 2000 can read them but not older equipment because at the time these were made cd burners didn't even exist.
So the best thing you can do is spend some money and buy some original cd's because downloading music is STEALING.
That's what I like about Lexus it forces people to buy cd's again so the artists won't go BANKRUPT.

i bought my car two years ago in florida. i took a bunch of burnt cds and enjoyed the whole drive back listening to my own music and not the retarded chit that they played going across...well the whole south

Yeah 2 years ago was 2006 so those cars cd changer could read it but not the first jen sc's.
I know for sure because I had that problem to when I had the stock system but now I installed an Alpine and that can play everything including cds with mp3.

So did the CDs that played on your original stereo play MP3s or .WAV files? I'minterested becasue nothing I've tried (except for your earlier comment using media player - haven't tried that yet) have worked.
