Anyone with DVD nav in Norther Virginia or DC area? Notice any mistakes? In the 15 months I've used it, I"ve noticed repeated
flaws on I-66 into DC, and also I-270 North/South. The system seems to think those two stretches of roads do not exist.

Also, there are at least a dozen businesses that have gone out of business for more than 5 years. However, the POI feature
and category listing still show them...

Get the most recent update from the dealership. I think they run about $250 or $300 and should fix your problems

Sleepy,

I live in MD and noticed those same problems. I was driving on 66 and the Nav didn't even acknowledge that the road existed - it kept telling me to take other roads. If you're on the local lanes on 270, the Nav tells you to get on the main lanes, but when you get on the main lanes it tells you to take the locals! I stopped using it on 270 - "Navigale's" voice drives me crazy. I'm sure that the POIs will never be totally correct, but 5 years out-of-date is a little much.

As for rhartoo's suggestion, it would be nice to get an updated Nav DVD, if it existed, but it doesn't, so we're stuck with what we got!

Larry,

Since NavTech provided the map data to Lexus, I thought their
maps should have the same errors. Strangely, it is NOT the
case.

My cousin just had a full Alpine DVD-based nav system installed
by Myer-Emco. We drove on I-66 to/from DC. It kept us on I-66.

This leads me to believe that Lexus has messed up something
when compiling their own DVD......

Default Need to check the sw version #

Sleepy,

You need to check the NAVTECH SW version number on your Lexus. My 2002 RX300 SW is version 2000.1, which is at least two years old!! For comparison 2001 BMW's are using NAVTECH SW version 2001.2, which increased the coverage by 10 times the 2000 version.

Also, the map SW should be updated about once each two years, just to allow for new and modified roads. The POI information also gets dated even more quickly than the roads.

I do have a poor fix, and that is to use a Garmin gps to supplement the Lexus system. The Garmin is probably the best (IMHO) GPS system available.

Sleepy,

I remember reading a thread about this subject several months ago, and someone asked whether there were HIV restrictions on either of the roads (66 or 270), since NAV manufacturers usually don't inlcude roads that have them, fearing that they'll instruct you to use a road that isn't available at the time. That may be why 66 doesn't appear as an option, but it doesn't explain the problems with 270.

I'm anxious for the updated DVD to be available, but from what I've read on this site, it may be co$tly, since there may be a software upgrade necessary too. Of course, this is all based on rumor and speculation, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Personally, I think the people who bought the DVD NAV when it first came out would have a strong case for a class action suit against Lexus if the upgrade is very expensive and Lexus makes us pay for it. After all, they sold us a "state-of-the-art" NAV system, that may be impossible to update without an expensive software upgrade!
