Default Stock amp and Sub + aftermarket stereo

Hi,

This is for 2nd Generation GS300.

I updated my questions with the info i got from members so you dont have to search through lots of posts.

Question: Can I put in an AFTERMARKET Head Unit, but still use the STOCK AMP & SUB???
Answer: "Not possible with the standard stock system, there is a serial programming line that runs from the stock radio to the stock amp. The amp is useless without it."

If not, I see 2 other alternatives:

(1) Upgrade Head Unit, Upgrade Amp, Use stock Sub
Answer: Yes.

(2) Upgrade Head Unit, Upgrade Amp, Upgrade Sub (From what i read you can use a 10" sub to swap out the stock sub)
Answer: Yes. But you will need to make a wooden bracket to bolt onto the the rim of the sub, then screw the wood into the center rear deck of the car. This is needed since the stock sub has a metal bracket on the sub used to hold it in place. So you must make a similar wooden one (cus it's easier then making a metal one) to hold the sub up. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=611

I plan on posting a detailed tutorial on this install once i get a definite answer. Just dont want to spend money on a new amp if i dont have to.

Thanks for the help!!!

What i plan to do:
Upgrade the head unit, Upgrade the Amp, Upgrade the Sub with a better but not too powerfull 10" sub. Just need to find the Sub that will sound clean and not rattle my back deck.

It seems it is possible if you have the Nakamichi stock system.

Not possible with the standard stock system, there is a serial programming line that runs from the stock radio to the stock amp. The amp is useless without it.

Okay, thanks for the info.

Question: Can I use a Aftermarket Headunit, Aftermarket Amp, and Stock sub then? (I'm assuming yes, unless there is something unique about this sub).

Question: What is a small aftermarket amp that would power the Stock Sub?

Thanks for the help!!!

If your going to go through all that trouble YOU MAY AS WELL UPDATE THE STOCK SUB! I cant imagine that thing being able to handle very much power anyways.

I ordered my stuff yesterday and will be installing it next week. Take a look at this...

I also ordered the NINe.2x amp from them as well to complete the set.

I will be running a Pioneer AVIC-D3 head unit (already installed), with Elemental Designs NINe.2x amp and a Elemental Designs 11Ov.2 Subwoofer with the IB Lexus Kit and furthur plans to upgrade door speakers with 4" Infinity Kappa's all around.

I'm talking about upgrading the Head Unit not the door speakers. Thanks for the info tho.

CHARMZ: Thanks for the tip. I'm guessing you are using the Head Unit to power the Door speakers and the 2channel amp to power the sub. Right?

Where do you plan on hiding your amp? I wanted to find a small amp so i wouldn't be seen.

hey charmz, let me know if you experience any dimming with that amp. Does anyone know how big the alternator is on the gs300/400?
