Covering your stereo system

Covering your stereo system
Hey guys,
I want to install a Avic-D1 which has been lurking in my house for a while. But, I sometimes park in a ghetto neighbourhood and I'm fairly certain it wouldn't take too long for it to get stolen.
I was wondering if anyone was able to devise a plan to hide your stereo system. I am currently thinking about making a plastic plate (designed and coloured to match stock) that would cover the entire system when I am parking the car. The cover would be magnetically held. I was wondering if someone has experience with this, or even if this would work? I could get tinted windows, but my windows are already tinted to my preference and would rather not have them too dark.
Thanks
