Default Cassette Problem

I was just in my 92 sc400 trying the tape player and it doesnt work at all, i push the tape in and it doesnt grab it at all, it just ejects it out, and when i try and press tape on the console it does nothing, AM, FM1 & 2 all work, but tape does nothing, tried 2 different tapes and no good, i want it to get the adapter to hook up my mp3 to the dash since i dont have a cd player. I bought a whole new trunk cd changer on ebay, but i was later told that it would fry the system if i installed it, so im wondering if anyone knows a fix to the cassette problem or if anyone knows if i could just install the new head unit from the 12 disc cd changer package.

well i was thinking about selling the unit i have now for some cash and then buying a new headunit like you are talking about, but how hard is it to install? I would get a new one for like $100ish and then get it installed but do audio places charge tons of money for installation or is installation for an sc easy?
