Default 97 SC400 Stereo Removal Question

Hey guys I am replacing my broken stereo unit today and have printed out various threads concerning removing the stereo unit. Several of the threads were for Soarers. They all say to push down a red button to get the gear shift to go to neutral without keys in ignition and then lower the plate below the gear shift and then the screws behind this.

As you know the 97 SC400 doesn't have a red button. So my question is do i just put the ignition key in? so that the shifter will move to neutral or is there another way?????

should be a shift lock over ride button near the shifter. i have a 92 and my button is black. you can put the key in the ignition but when its moved into neutral you wont be able to take the key out. and if youre working with the door open, that door chime gets old real quick.

yeah it seems the sc400 had these buttons until the 97 year. i have looked in the manual and dont see an override button anywhere. and yeah that door chime does get old....lol

Okay guys i found it in the manual. The shiftlock override button is underneath a little black plastic cover piece; you have to pry this up to depress the button with a flathead screwdriver. i saw but it wasnt a button so i never knew what it was. okay back to the stereo removal; peaceeeeeeee
