Default sc400 radio volume problem tried searched no luck

hello everyone this is my second posting in this site. i am a one month old owner of a 1992 sc400. i bought the car without a exhaust on it and i love the roar of the v8,but its starting to annoy my gf when we go out. i want to save up for a exhaust so that option (for now) is out the only thing to somewhat block off the sound would be the stock headunit. the only problem is that i cranked up the volume to the max, but yet the volume doesn't seem to get any louder than where it is. the stock woofer out back hits perfectly and the speakers all work no raspy noise at all, so there probably not blown. this is my first sc and i have no clue how to fix it. i would put a aftermarket deck on it but i even know that finding a install kit is a pain in the A!$. so any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Before i replaced my factory head I had the stock one and it got very loud. I had different speakers in it, but they were all 4" coaxiles. If you are not familiar with the setup there is a set of 4" componets up front, (2) 4" woofers in the rear and the 10" sub. All of these are running through what is probably for you the Nakamichi 5-channel amp. Sounds to me like everything is working in yours except the first four channels for the mids and highs are not producing enough power. I would take out the amp (under the CD changer in the trunk) and have a local audio shop take a look at it. Hope it works out.

You may need to replace the volume control unit. It contains both the volume **** and the AC/Heat control ****.
