What kind of sub setups are people running in SC's?
I tried searching and I think the only aftermarket sub setup I saw is the guy who fiberglassed an enclosure into the left trunk corner. I'm basically wondering how effective a sub in the trunk is. The fuel tank seems to be a pretty big divider...how does that effect sound quality and volume? I was also thinking of using the slim sub I have in my MR2 and putting it on the rear deck in a wide, flat enclosure. It probably wouldn't raise the deck more than 4-6 inches.
Could people with aftermarket subs post their installs?

The simplest thing to do is just throw a small box in the trunk. I have a Kicker CVX10 in a Kicker spec box running off a TMA250. You need to remove the old stock sub so that the bass can travel to the front. I love this setup. The CVX hits really hard, and note that im not even giving it half the amount of power it can handle (250 rms compared to its max of 600 rms!!!). Yes the box is not as nice as a custom fiberglass enclosure, but its removable, it doesn't take up too much space, and kicker makes one hell of a quality system. Look around some too. Good luck.

Here's my setup I just finished doing myself not that long ago. I didn't want anything fancy as far as fiberglass and all that goes, so I just built a pretty simple box, covered it in black suede, and put it back there. As already mentioned, if you take out the factory sub, that gives the sub much more of an ability to get the sound to the cabin, but my one sub hits plenty hard.
The sub is a Elemental Designs 11kv.2 and the actual box it is sitting in is only .6 cu ft. I didn't use that whole box area for a sub

Nice setup, it's good to know you can get good sound from the trunk, that will definitely make an install easier.
How prone are the trunks to rattling? I'm hoping it's sound proofed as well as the rest of the car seems to be.

The rattling is actually very minimal, the car is so well built so there is very little rattle. Just make sure the rear speaker deck is secure and the stock sub cover is on securely.

GS owner here, but I recently removed the OEM sub from the rear deck and it made quite the difference in bass quality. Just thought I'd share.
I'm running 2 12" Kicker CVRs powered by a 400 watt rms Kicker ZX400.1 mono amp.

Former Sponsor - Cancelled
I did all kinds of setups in my sc and was never happy.
The best I got was with a setup like posted above. I had a MTX 5500 10" mounted free air in the factory sub location (with custom Fiberglass spacer).
This left trunk room open, and had the best sound.
I also tried my JL audio 8w7 next to the gas tank firing through the rear deck, and in the trunk.
In every setup I had, there was major cancellation. You would hardly hear any bass, then open the doors or sun roof and it goes up 10 db.
I even tried a Kicker L5 12" box we sold at work just sitting in the back seat and still had the cancellation issues.

He is right about the bass travel. I however mostly drive around with my windows open anyways. But I dont need everyone to hear my sub, my alpine's take care of that... Plus I can still make my eyes rattle when Im driving. It's a personal choice.
