My HomeLink visor= Epic Failz0rz
I just received my homelink visor yesterday in the mail and got around to installing it this morning. Got home tonight and attempted to program it.
It will not accept the code for it. I searched for some stuff on it and someone posted the owners manual instructions. Did that to the T like 10 times and it didn't work.
I went to my neighbors house and tried it with theirs.
That worked on the first try. I thought maybe the car had to be on, so I did it like that and theirs worked.
When I went home to try it with mine leaving the car on, I got the same results.
My garage door opener that I have standalone still works, but I can't program the HL visor.
Halp!

Normally, a Homelink module in a car does not require the car to be running or have the key in the ignition. There is nothing wrong in wiring it up that way though -- would prevent someone from opening your garage door after breaking in to your car when parked in the driveway.
Are you sure that your garage door opener is Homelink compatible?
If it is compatible, does it have a "rolling code" feature?
The first step of programming a Homelink button is to use a garage door opener remote control -- hold the remote control next to the Homelink button and follow your instructions.
The second step involves linking the Homelink button to the rolling code feature. This usually involves pressing the Homelink button and also a button on the garage door opener motor housing.
I've programmed Homelink buttons a number of times but it still took me a couple of tries a few weeks ago to program the center Homelink button in my 00 LS400 to open my parent's garage door.
Here's a link to programming instructions on the Homelink website: http://www.homelink.com/programming/programming.taf
