IS-250 w/Auto-Mate, excessive horn chirping
We just bought a 2006, used IS-250. It has 30k miles and is in beautiful shape. It came with "Auto Mate" which is an OEM add-on for additional security. We're not sure Auto Mate is causing the issue below, or if it is the standard security system. Issue: With the engine running, I push the ignition switch to turn off the engine. Here is the sequence/duration of horn beeps: -one short -pause -two short -pause -one extended (about 2-3 seconds) This must be an error/problem, since I see no way anyone would program a system to do that after a normal engine stop. I've read the small "Auto Mate" manual and it does not mention any beeping after ignition stop. I also looked through the regular Lexus manual and have found nothing related to this. Please help. Any clues will go towards solving this issue.
Thank you. Ed

The Auto-Mate systems are nearly identical to the dealer-ripoff Karr systems. Sounds like you're in programming mode or there's a problem with the Auto-Mate brain which is really just a shock sensor and a rudimentary alarm.
DEI is tight-lipped about the programming mode since they feel only installers should have that info.
