Default What DoubleDIN

SOrry to start a BS thread about this, but I didnt want to bump an old thread for my specific topic. I would search, but what do I look for

Im am looking for a DoubleDIN that pretty much can do everything, besides drive my car. Is there one that can have the NAVI/DVD work, while your driving?

I no nothing about electronics and need your opinions.

Thanks

if you're looking for a simple double din which is not too expensive but gets the job right...get the pioneer avic d3...everything top notch except for navi you have to load a separate CD which can be a hassle especially when you need directions pronto this can probably be had for around $400-500

or you can get the higehr end avic models...N2 or Z2 can't remember which is more expensive but serves its purpose like a factory navi does...no loading for Navi FTW!!

some navi comes with multiple slots so you can leave the navi CD in there and not worry about the load times, or you can buy the more expensive memory based navi. Personally I don't mind the CD and it will probably be easier than memory-based navi since if you want to update all you have to do is get a new CD. Don't do install at Best-buy...Circuit city etc...because some of them don't want to brake bypass the DVD feature (allows you to watch while driving) for fears of being sued

If you want a double DIN radio with build-in navi go with Pioneer. I have just bought a JVC KW-AVX810 Double DIN which has it all for my need, its without navi though, but I prefer a handheld navi, such as Garmin or tomtom. DVD function while driving in radio's, can usually be bypassed by grounding the parking brake wire from the radio. That's what I did on mine, so I/passenger can see DVD on the road while driving.

I went with the Kenwood DNX8120. DVD/NAV/Bluetooth all in one. I went through the same research when trying to look for one. I decided on the Kenwood over the Pioneer AVIC (have one in my 4Runner) because it has a 6.95" screen and most importantly has everything you need built into one unit (except rear view camera). Especially in CA, Bluetooth came in handy. Plus it loads a lot faster than the Pioneer and the Garmin based maps are a lot more user friendly. There were a few technical differences between the Pioneer and Kenwood, but the Kenwood compared side to side are pretty similar. The selling point for me was how much faster the Kenwood loads. But check it out for yourself.

I agree with the above posts, don't worry about playing DVD's off your unit. That can by bypassed.

I just bought a Pioneer AVICF90BT for my wife's Honda Pilot. I looked at the 700B and 900BT as they are very similar but this has it all. Get one now if you have an eBay, Paypal and Live.com account. They are offering a 30% discount on eBay via live.com. My total after the rebate comes to $440. Can't touch that price anywhere. Just came back from Car Toys and they are selling the same thing for $1099 plus tax.

Maybe on our next EAS meet, I'll bring that car instead

I might get the DNX8120, because its more for what I am looking for. I dont need to buy anything to get everything I want.

Thanks for all the advice.

Airtime can you show me where you bought this for 440?

I can't find this price on live.com or ebay.com

help.

And who cares about start up time.
What are you guys pizza delivery boys?
You probably want to let the car idle a few seconds at start up anyway.

I hear there is new firmware that reduces start up time on the Avic. there is also a way to disable the IPOD update that will cut the start up time in half.

there is a firmware update on the AVIC-F90BT, AVIC-F900BT, AVIC-F700BT or AVIC-F7010BT. also do this conversion.

I'm leaning towards the Pioneer.
