has anyone wired the factory volume knob to an aftermarket head unit?

you already have a volume **** on your aftermarket stereo. why wire up another one. i know there are radios that have buttons for volume but those are generally on cheaper decks anyways.
btw we have an "audio/video" interest section/sub-forum. it should have been posted there.

i think he meant to make the factory volume **** be a master control for volume and power for the aftermarket head unit. if you don't plan on shaving off the factory ****, then that's one way to make it still functional. i was wondering the same thing a while back too.

another cool idea would be to wire it up to an exhaust cut out.
volume control for the radio is on the radio, volume for the car is on the car haha. i have crackpot ideas for cars.
for the OP, unless you have an external amp, i'd recommend leaving it alone. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I know this is late but I was wondering the same thing, I'm about to install a Pioneer Avic F700 head unit and it has an input for a wired remote, I'm wondering if I could use my stock volume **** with a minijack adaptor to power the volume on the HU, because the volume **** on the Avic radio also controls the CD player up/down, left/right and I don't want to overuse it.
