Amplifier input is Digital only on ML vehicles and only for DVD. This statement only valid for 2006-2009 Lexus vehicles. CD input on all 2006-2009 US Lexus vehicles always been analog!
Even on 2010 Lexus factory USB input adapter use analog connection.

Good info. I spent an hour pouring through the schematics and web info and wasn't able to find out the specifics of what signals were maintained 100% digital to the amp. I know that my ML equipped GS does discrete multichannel audio and wrongfully assumed it was possible they were passing the 2 channel digital output off of CD's as well. Thanks for the clarification.

Edit: I went back and did find the R+ R- L+ L- analog inputs to the amp on the schematic.

"R+ R- L+ L- analog inputs to the amp" - balanced audio.

"The advantage of this connection is that when used for long distances the noise (interference) is not only canceled out by the alternating voltages but because its a higher signal voltage it can travel much longer distances without interference and without a booster."

I'm familiar with balanced audio - my home setup runs full balanced, but true balanced connections require positive, neutral and separate ground for each channel which isn't shown in the schematic I found - diagram in the repair manual could be confusing or incomplete as it tries to represent both ML and non ML setups.

It is true and I think it is purposely done this way.
