Default options for new head unit

hey guys, the stock radio in the 93 SC is going to be replaced. i really wanted a fixed in dash unit with nav but i am being told that these units are not compatible with my SC. is there any way to make the newer units work or am i stuck looking at a basic cd player? recommendations welcome. thanks.

I have a Pioneer AVIC Z3 in my 95 SC300 - no problem. Metra now makes a double DIN install kit for the first gen SC and several CL members have used it successfully. Not sure why someone is telling you that a fixed NAV unit won't work, cause my car says it will. There's a Toyota Metra wire harness ( I believe it's the 70-8112 ) that will help you hook it up without hacking your harness. I used the harness and it makes the install easy - in fact I did not even use the Metra Double DIN install kit, the Pio fit with no problem and you can add a 1/2 DIN 'sleeve' to take up the extra space if you want ( I have a turbo timer and boost control in the 'space').

So get yourself a Metra double DIN install kit and Toyota Metra 70-8112 wire harness and you're good-to-go with a fixed NAV unit. Good luck.
