1999 SC400 No Factory Alarm?
Never really played around with my key since I bought the car a few months back. Does the SC400 come with an alarm or just keyless entry? I've tried locking the car and with the windows down/using the key, try to trip the alarm and nothing happens. No siren/horn/blinking lights. The only way I can get the horn/lights to work is by hitting the panic button.
So my question is does the SC come with a factory alarm or just keyless entry?

Factory security, especially back 10 years, was mostly intrusion related. In other words, if your fob has a panic button, it's probably just keyless entry with a horn honk/flash when the doors are opened after it's locked. The key provides security with the chip, and that was all the engineers felt necessary at that point.

ok thanks for the replies guys. i just ask because i want to get an alarm for it but just shelled of a bunch of $$ getting a new master key from lexus that will virtually be useless if i upgrade.
although the tech said i could integrate an alarm to work with the key. is that possible?

As for an alarm, yes, a skilled technician should have no issue integrating everything together. Just because your master could control the locks and possibly the windows doesn't mean a good security system couldn't provide that and more.
Oh, and you're welcome.
