Default aperiodic membrane for rear mounted sub

Anyone try to mount an aftermarket sub in the stock location with an aperiodic membrane enclosure? This would save mucho trunk space and could *possibly* sound almost as good as a sealed box.

I'm looking to do this in my '95 GS to get back some trunk space from my ~.9cu ft sealed enclosure with 12" Alpine type R DVC sub.

oh yeah... if i did this, i would probably have to enlarge the stock sub hole... right? i have the nak sound with 10" in da back...

thanks!

your best best is to mount the woofer on a baffle that is attached to the rear deck from underneath. Theres a bunch of ppl here who run subs bigger than 10 inches and I believe that's how they mount the sub. I have a 98 gs and I have a 10 mounted on a baffle because the the hole in the rear deck was slightly bigger than the 10.

From what I know about aperiodic setups, they're kinda like a free-air setup except you got a membrane between the area in front of the woofer and the area behind (USD Audio way of thought). I believe you've got to completely seal the trunk from the cabin. Since I haven't had much experience with it, I won't pretend to know anymore. Send some email to Eric Holdaway at usd audio for more info.

Here's a link to an install they did with a 98+ gs

good luck with your install

Thanks for the link...

A baffle sounds like what i need.... something that adapts the 10" mounting space to what my 12" needs... hmm... sounds good to me.

From what i gather, my GS (last gen) has a pretty good seal between the trunk and the passenger compartment... no fold down seats or anything...

For those of you who don't know what an aperiodic membrane is... there's an excellent article on it at:

not many people here with the last gen GS, huh...
