Keep going with the Bostons They are a nice brand. I have heard Rainbow is good also.
Most folks were able to stuff 5 1/4 in the front doors and up to a 6.5" at the back even 2.5 ~ 2.75 mounting depth with a mdf baffle.
I'm running the Kicker's K60 right now in my gs400 Rear doors and will probably swap to a SL65 Boston soon.
The Kicker's K60 has good bass response but the Tweeter is to piercing and harsh not as smooth as my Boston RC51 in the Front.
Boston has a wide price range and line up that will fit our cars.
I'm assuming your GS300 is 98+ up Second GEn

Sound depends on the design of the speakers itself. It's like asking whether larger subwoofers will have better bass or not.
Larger speakers just opens up more opportunity to select drivers. 4" and 5.25" speakers were very limited in selection. I couldn't find what I want in those size.

Keep in mind that your Head Unit is Max 45 Watts a Speaker.
So RMS is like 20-25 Watts a speaker.
Those are pretty much the cheapest speakers in say Boston's Line up. Like the RC51 that I'm running.
The higher end models will take a lot higher RMS like the SL or SR Boston Line that could handle say 100 Watt RMS.
So you don't have to spend a lot of money on speakers to get the cleanest sound out of your head unit.
On the other hand if you decide later to hook up some amps to those speakers then you potentially would want to invest in a more quality higher RMS speaker so it could handle your new 500Watt 4 Chanel amp.
Hope this made sense.

thanks that helps iam starting to see the light. I think iam going to go with the boston S. do they make a tweeter for the front that will work with the boston s and my head unit?

i used components in the front stock locations and a 2-way in the rear. anything 1" tweeter would work in behind the mirrors. I had a shop install it so don't know how easy the swap really is with the oem front tweeters.
You can do separates front and rear but then you'll have to find a location on the rear doors to mount the tweeter.

I don't think it's worth it for you because your using the Head unit to drive it. So it's kind of a waste because components are not only a little more difficult to install (4 speakers)But also usually twice the price because they come with higher RMS rattings and crossovers as well.
Go with coaxial in the Rear it will look more OEM and sound just fine for what you are trying to do.
The SL65 are now Last years model being replaced by the Boston SR65 these are both Coaxial 6 1/2"
They are identical except
the SL65 were $279 at crutchfield now $139
The SR65 this years model is $279.
I'm going to pull the trigger and order mine this week.
The tweeters on my Kicker K60 is just killing my ears. I'll miss their mid bass however.
