It seems like 900mhz is the way to go. Better than a regular fm signal.

Ive been an after-market 12Volt specialist for over a decade. I am a dealer for both the compustar and the Prestige models. The Compustar is the finest 2way system available at the current time. They are the originals and hence, everone is playing catchup. The above quote about the Alladin being the better system is completely wrong! I have brought a few Alladins in and tried them. They are very weak! It offers some nice features, but the siren is the worst that I have ever dealt with, the enormous antennae module makes for a sloppy, DIY backyard installation look. All 3 units that I got for trial had some form of problem. The new Compustar 2WSS offers up to 1.25 miles of range. They are the only company given aproval by the FCC for that range. The Prestige APS-995 is a nice inexpensive sytem that actually performs really well. It comes with 2 remotes standard. 1 one way and 1 two way which saves the consumer on average $85.00 for a second remote. The 2way remote is nice and compact, but that comes with a price. It uses a poor old watch style little light in the corner for illumination unlike the Compustars Indiglo style. The APS-995 offers a ton(7) of aux outputs for those looking to expand system functionality. Noone else comes close! The Prestige is the best value going for a decent system that is bullet-proof in design. The only problem is finding one. DEI cried foul because they independantly tested the 995 and found that its range exceeded the FCC limits. Thus all units had to be pulled until corrections are made.
If you want the Compustar and not the expense right now, then get a 1way system. The same brain is used so at a later date you can simply upgrade to a new antennae and remote to convert it to a 2 way system. The are using a modular design for more customer options which is great. If you get the 2WFM it will operate with the 1 way FM remote so a second remote will not cost you as much. As with all systems, not one is always the best. I would love to take this feature from that one and this feature from this one, but it is not possible. If you want to know YAH or NAY. Its definitely a YAH! Very good products that lead the innovation into tomorrows products, Everyone else is at least a step behind.

Default If you like that

If you like compustar check out this
http://www.elitelog.com

Pagetrack2 Satellite tracking (stolen vehicle recovery unit)

you can remote start, remote unlock, even disable the starter (not even a correct transponder key will start the car).

You can do it over the web, 2way pager, PDA or cell phone. If your alarm goes off they call or page or e-mail you. You can also summon roadside assistance via satellite if you find yourself in a position that your car is dead and your cell phone is not in a good service area.

lisnup65 - Damn good post...now check this out. I dont have the time for DIY. I will pay the loot to have my ride done when I come to pick it up. This place called soundsource that does quality stereo installs wants to charge me 800 to install a http://www.autopageusa.com/ system and a extra 50 dollars because of the tansponder in my key. I have this place called audio depot that will install the compustar 2WSSR for 560. He told me compustar was not FCC aproved and autopage was the only approved company. I think Ima tell dude to suck on a egg waffle.

The Copustar unit as all others units is FCC approved! Thats the biggest load of crap that I have yet. If it was not FCC approved it could NOT be sold in the US!! In the back of the transmitter is the FCC identification # that was granted to them. The SS just started shipping so I am assuming that the $800.00 price is par as its the newest piece that is just arriving at retailers. I have 6 backordered already!!!! Remember that the $50.00 extra for the transponder key most likely means you will lose a key. Check out Ebay as I have a few of the keys for sale that you can program without being cut. The FM averages $550.00 to $650.00 installed while the SS will average $650.00 to $850.00. Its all about the 1.25 mile range!!!!! 5 times what the competition can offer!!

HI lisnup65

I alwasy wanted to install 2000AS on my SC but is it easy to DIY?
I never really touch security system but I have lil bit of Electr experience. I have already downloaded all PDF files on my pc but wondering how long it'll take to install (well as newbie).
or should I just look for prof. installer?

It depends on your knowledge. The compustars are not the worst sytems to install. A big factor to consider is the warranty. If not installed by a authorized dealer, you are SOL! The 2000AS is no longer available unless someone still has some lying around.

Regarding the fcc approval, a few comapnies have/are selling units in the us which could not pass fcc if tested: the right connection fm unit, crimestopper fm unit, black widow unit, we already know of the compustar units and just recently astroflex and razor/ultrastart have came out with a 2-way which if tested will fail fcc approval. Some of the first units mentioned have corrected there power on the remotes, but the later are brand new design.

On the compustar it is at this moment by far the best unit being marketed even considering the non-legal autostarts. The one thing I do not like is when you buy one of there units it is almost impossible to add a backup battery because the unit draws all of its power on one main line for the starting and brain power.

Dei should bring out there unit in August , it will be based on the 553 series, I have been patiently waiting it to start shipping for 2-years.

I have the Compustar also and it works great. I am also an ex high end installer. I still do all of my audio and alarms. Believe me. The compustar has been bullet proof.

I just installed the new 2WSS in my IS. The range is unbelievable!!!!! Since Firstechs Compustar is the first and ONLY system thats uses Spread Spectrum the others are still scrammbling to catch up. The new units use a modular design so a consumer can purchase a FM based unit today if thats all their budget allows and easily upgrade when allowed. The same controll unit is used. All you do is upgrade the remote and the antennae!! The new Compustars are nice, but as an installer I can say that I really wish that I could have been in on the design process. So many little thing that could have been done to make an installers life a little less hell. That would have ment possibly cheaper prices to the consumer for the installer would not have to spend as much time in the vehicle.
As far as not being able to use a back up battery is untrue! You cannot use the conventional backup battery, but you can install and use a BatCap as a backup battery. I just did a system that used a Batcap for main power supply when the vehicles battery is disconnected as well as a backup siren. Disconnect the battery and the siren whales! Regardless you cannot go wrong with the Compustar units if you want a nice 2 way security system. Biggest complaint! Not enough AUX channels!!!!
