I had my Escort Passport X50 radar detector for almost 3 years. Never a problem; absolutely love it; saved me from a lot of tickets All of a sudden got message on display "Service Required". I turned it on and off, message went away, than came back a day later. Power cycled it, and message went away but it no longer detects any signals, even in the usual places where I used to get X50 triggered before. I read on-line its due to self-calibration failure?!? Some suggest sending for service to Escort. Have no idea how much that will cost and if it even worth doing or buy a new one. Escort even has $80 trade-in program. Anybody else had a similar problem or know what's going on? Any suggestions?

X50 is one of the best radars Ive had. You should just send it into Escort so that they can fix it. Once fixed, itll be as good as new because I think they replace all the components.

To answer my own question, I just called them up and its only $59.95 for a full repair. IMHO well worth it.

Just want to add as an update. I did send it out for repair (paid $59.95). Got it back in a week. They replaced a number of parts inside, but after 1 week radar detector start going crazy, triggered of any external signal. I called them up, received free UPS return label, sent it back, and... just received in the mail a brand new x50 replacement. Wow, now that what I call A+ service!!!
