Default Powering laptop in car?

Hi, I'm wondering how you guys power the laptop in your car.
I'm planning to get inverter (maybe 300W) and I want to plug into cig lighter adapter but doesnt it damage the laptop at all?
I wanna keep charging while I'm traveling so I can use road map software or internet ...or anything.

If you are using the inverter, what brand is good?
If not, what are other choice to power the laptop?

also what you guys using laptop in the car for? mp3? just curious

any input is welcome, thanks

I've got a Targa converter specific for laptops that works fine with my Compaq laptop and also with my GF's Toshiba. Comes with a set of various tips for different laptop types.

I haven't used it extensively, I usually just pull it out for long trips so we can watch (or listen, for the driver) movies. I can't speak to the long term effects of the power source being fed from the car.

A second piece of that setup for me is to use one of those cassette-based thingys that is used to play using a portable CD player mini/headphone output. Just plug the cable into the headphone jack on the laptop and pop the cassette into the player and you've got stereo movies?

I know this is a poor man's rigged version - but it sure works well, especially in a rental car on a 6 hour + drive.

Not sure about the SC, but in the GS, there is a plug like the cig lighter, hidden in the center armrest console (maybe for the OEM phone?) Maybe a little cleaner install to plug it in there.

Can't add any specific info about the inverter, but that is the best route.
