Default custom box with 4 subs.

ive thought up of another system since wireing 6 subs would be difficult, with only one amp, so ive got a design for 4 subs. my question is.... air space for each sub is .5 - 1.5 cubic feet of air. which is better, to make the box on the smaller side of that air space or maximize full 1.5 cubic feet of air per sub. im very forgetfull and dont remember what i learned about this topic.
also is there much difference if a box is perfectly sqaure or if it is very odd shaped. oh yea, this would be a sealed box thanks.

avoid perfect squares..basically, the more odd the shape, the better.. as far as the volume..are you sure the specs say .5 - 1.5? ive never seen that much of a span before..what subs are u using?

thanks, bc my box is not all sqaure/. yea i thought the same thing such a big difference in air space. it is an audiobahn AW1200X the 2000 model i believe, its not the one with the flames on it. and it has a chrome ring around the basket. the left column is my old 12''s that i have (#3 of them). right column is the AW1200X (i want #4 of them)

I threw the specs into WINISD, it reaches a Qtc of .71 in a box 1.5ft^3 large. Make them as big as you can. You can make them square, it doesn't matter.

A Qtc of .707 is going to give you what is considered the best frequency response possible. You get the plenty of lowend base with the lowest F3 point (where your output drops to -3). If you get a significantly larger box, you will gain some efficiency and some output on the extreme lowend (subsonic area) but your F3 point will rise. If you lower the box size, you will lose efficiency but gain some output in areas where you don't necessarily want it(midbass area). You will also lose lowend bass and raise your F3 point. A lot of people confuse a high Qtc/undersized box with better sound quality because they have their subwoofers crossed over too high and notice better output in areas where a good pair of 6.5's should be concentrating on.
