JL Audio 500/1 would be weak to my opinion...you will be under powering the subwoofer by 100 watt rms.
if your get the 12W6V2-D4 i recommend wiring it down to 2ohms @ 600 watt rms +
i have a Sundown SAZ-1500D which will compliment the sub woofer very well if your interested @ 2ohms will do 800 watt RMS.
so the amp will have some headroom to work with and wont give you any problems with over heating, have someone tune it in and you will be good.
if you want to expand later down the road you can wire 2 x 12W6V2 to 1ohm @ 1200 watt rms +. The Sundown SAZ-1500D @ 1ohm will do 1500 watt RMS.
P.S. i use to have these sub woofers in my LS400
they knock really hard no doubt!!!!!!!

Thanks for info. I'm only gonna push 1, I've run 2 before and it's too much (i'm not 19 anymore
)
So you don't think the 500/1 would be a good choice?
I'm really wanting to stick to the JL brand. Are there any other amps they have you'd recommend to push the W6?

Langsdale - has JL gone down THAT much, in your observation? Seems like a few years ago they were fairly respectable. Perhaps all the media attention drove them into mass production / cost cutting?

cdtaudio.com i think? its not a great website, but the highs and amps are amazing. the subs are good, but maybe too clear for most users. they dont cater to the "boom boom" mentality, but i put am amp to each sub....
im happy.

This suggests to me that the JL had a "iffy" power supply design. A beefy well designed amp will last quite a long time.

And Percy, unfortunately, many consumers are willing to forego longevity for cheap right now. They'd rather get a product for $120 that will go for a year or two than shell out $300 for a great unit that will be around in 10. It's kind of like cars in general for a lot of people - willing to buy a Civic because it's cheap and economical, easy and cost effective to fix, and if it breaks down, you can replace it. Those who want better quality step up to...the reason we're here.

Both my McIntosh amps are going on 15 years...and still rockin.
Mc said that if I hit the 25 year mark with the amps to redo the capacitors...and then have another 25 more years of music.
