Big sc400 subs?
how large of a sub can you fit in the sc400? I have seen one a few times with a seriously loud stereo but i cant see how theyve done it!!

snoz you dont really need a big sub to make your stereo loud, all you need is a good amp and a good box. I have 2 12" subs in my car and it hits harder than my freinds 2 15's. I would say 2 12's or 3 10's with some good amps would be more than enough for an SC. Now of you really want to hit those DB's get a couple of Digital Designs, or a pair of Brahma's, or cerwin vegas, or Kove armageddon, or the MMATTS Jugernaut. These are a few of the big hitters, that need alot of power, but they will shake ***** up

IMO, a single twelve or dual tens would be best. There simply isn't enough air space in there for much more than that. I have dual twelves in mine right now and it takes up the whole trunk and rattles everything on the car (have not yet applied the Dynamat). I'm going to sell my twleves and the box and replace it with a single 10 or 12-inch free air in the rear dash. BTW, do you guys think a 500/1 is too much for a JL free air? Should I use a 250/1 or will the 500/1 be fine? Does anyone else make a better free air sub for around the same price?

~It all depends on how loud yoo want it
~How much trunk are yoo willing to give up
~And the most important: How much are yoo willing to spend?
When the first stereo was put in my SC it was a 10 with Apriodic (sp?)membrane fitted over a JL 4ohm. Sounded really nice, but if you are willing to spend for a membrane yoo may as well get an enclosure made.
Look in the gallery there's a
sc400 with an enclosure built into the trunk side wall made by by "marcman18" VERY nice

Here is how I fit in a 10".
1. took out the cover and disconnect the LED wire
2. removed screws and removed the black plastic rim
3. removed speaker
4. removed the steel rim holding the speaker
5. I made a bigger notch on the plastic rim to accomodate the wire.
6. I slid on the black rim under the speaker (you're going to have to squeeze but it will fit)
7. I mounted the speaker
8. I put the steel rim on and used long bolts I bought from the hardware store and washers to hold it down.
9. replace cover. I used a sony Xplid speaker and it fits pretty good
or
you can leave everything alone and remove the stock sub and mount a 10 inch from the bottom and it fits that way too. A little to close to the gas tank if you ask me but it works. I had it this way but felt uncomfortible so i moved it to the top.

And now I've got dual JL Audio 10's. I also made a board that sits over all this stuff, so I can still carry luggage in the trunk

Wow, Wiz, that was one BIG BOX you had there!
Whatever you end up doing, snoz, here's what to avoid (from that well-known auction web site, Item # 1830801715):
