YMMV, maybe Washington cops have more of a dislike for detectors. I based #2 on having friends in law enforcement who have told me things like;
"If I stop someone and see a radar detector, they WILL get a ticket."
"No breaks for radar detectors"
"If I see a detector, I figure the guy has avoided a lot of speeding tickets and he will be written for something."
I was stopped in my wife's car for failing to signal. Her car has a remote starter with the antenna glued to the top inside of the windshield. The cop specifically asked what it was for. I showed him the remote starter and he said "As long as it isn't a radar detector." I got off with a warning.

Yup, V1 has my vote as well! Have it hardwired too. A for trying to find it at a cheap price, I was under the impression that V1's are only sold direct?!?! Maybe I'm wrong but what the other posters have said - check out Ebay and/or craigslist.

Just go to the Valentine One site and buy it new. The price I believe is $399, or you can go ebay and get one used for around the $275 - 325 range.
I had the top-end Passport and it was falsing all the time. The V1 on the same PA turnpike eliminated all falsing. I swear-by the arrows. I could never use another detector that did not have the arrows. If you want the best then V1, and you will not be sorry.
There is an excellent mount that enables you to attach it to the bottom of your rearview mirror. I have it installed on my RX350 and it looks like it came with the car. It's around $55 from ebay. You can also find it installed in pictures on the radardetector.net website within the Valentine One section. Simple installation in about 5-10 minutes.

I've been using the V1 for almost 4 years. The best radar I've used!! Also pair it with MX-25 Blinder Laser Jammers and your set!
Most officers are using Laser...my laser jammers have saved me more than my radar detector..

Everybody raves about the V1 and every time I'm in a car with a V1 I get annoyed because it does false all the time. The V1 doesn't have anything over my cheap old Cobra besides arrows. I recently purchased the Escort 9500ix and I love it! The V1 is old technology and has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to come close to the 9500ix. It has fantastic range and the GPS anti-falsing works great. My friend that has a V1 saw my 9500ix and now he wants one. You can update the 9500ix with the latest updates for speed cameras and red light cameras pretty much on a weekly basis.
