I have to disagree here, mang. This is well outside of the thermal limits of the speaker, and will be wasting part of the budget on top of that. Going from 75 watts to 150 watts is a pretty decent jump in price, and not necessary, IMHO. At the very most in order to have headroom and control, I would do 80 or maybe even 90 watts, but never 150. Besides, one slip with that kind of juice, and those speakers are toast.

I concur and endorse this level. Can't get behind 150w.

And yet, no one did. We've all started somewhere, and I don't find it terribly helpful to the cause to trash someone simply because I know more than they do on this stuff. While it's true that Crunch is not a top tier brand, as top tier brands continue to erode by buying their boards from whatever company makes them cheaper and will stuff them into a chassis, I see the lines blurring a lot quicker than I have in the past. If it was 20 years ago in the heyday of car audio, I'd certainly think differently, but it's not.

To a certain extent, I agree. Just don't overdo it. It's a waste of money when you go ape guano on it.

thanks i just needed clarification on amp ratings for door speakers, i thought i ventured into unchartered territory when 150 rms was suggested. I thought there was another protocol when it came to powering them that I didnt know about.

but again, why should I over power them to that extent?
why not power them with an amp that matches the rating of the speakers?

Some believe that having an amplifier capable of overpowering your speakers can be beneficial because when you want to crank it up to the speakers' limitations, the amp is only running at half of its limitations. Thus the amp won't clip or distort with a high amount of gain. Additionally, some feel this keeps the amp running cooler at all times.

On the flip side, if a speaker can handle 75 watts, and your amp can only provide 75 watts, then to get the most out of that speaker you're going to be running that poor little amp for all its worth. Make sense?

Just be careful when you are capable of pushing like 150 watts or something, that you don't turn up the volume too much. But if you push too much power to the speakers, you'll probably be able to notice it as they'll start to distort. Gotta be careful though, it'd only take one drunk friend CRANKING up the volume to blow all your speakers in a blink of an eye

but again, back to the efficiency, an amp that does 150w is only -3dB at 75w

so again, you'll be running the 150w amp at half it's capacity safely

but like mack said, one slip up with that much juice and those speakers are toast.
