Default 2006 Lexus GS300 - upgraded audio sysytem (non-ML)

Hey,

I have a 2006 Lexus GS300 and I recently added a JL Audio W6 subwoofer and JL 500/1 amp to my non-ML audio system, however, I notice that my sub overpowers my stock mids and highs. I know this sounds like a dumb question...but has anyone else noticed this when adding a sub to their otherwise stock system? For everyone who added a sub - did you change the mids and highs to aftermarket equipment as well? Feedback is appreciated...thanks.

You would usually have to change out all the speakers. The most important ones to change out first would be the mids and the tweeters. Subwoofers are secondary.

Thanks for the response. I guess my plans now are to replace the stock speakers with components...however since I have a stock headunit...shouldn't I get an equalizer of some sort to improve sound quality? I'm currently using the MTX Re-Q to connect my sub to the headunit. Any experience with the JL Cleansweep - will this act as an equalizer if I install components?

does the MTx re-q actually allow you to turn the volume up past 43 on the stock headunit without the sub cutting out? I currently have an alpine Rtype 12 in a custom side panel box using a pac 35 LOC and no matter how i set the levels the bass just craps out after volume 43 and actually gets weaker. Any input would be greatly appreciated

I have a ML and i did change the woofer to a sealed box, good improvement, but now, i have the same question, upgrading the spealeks, mostly the front part. I do have a set of component Infinity Perfect Kappa 5.1 with sweeters laying around, it's rated 90wrms/speaker, but i'm hesitant to install a 3rd amp for that, can i simply use a LOC for that ?

bsmith203, what do you mean by crap out after volume 43 ? i have the same setting, but with a Soundgate LOCx2 and an Image Dynamic sub and the sound is great, even at max volume. On your LOC, do you have a woofer frequency cutoff and gain setting ?

Blueshark, meaning after i turn the volume past vol number 43 the mids and highs in the car continue to get louder but the subwoofer actually decreases in volume. I know it sounds wierd but it seems as if some circuitry in the head unit is decreasing the bass. by the way my LOC has gain controls and the crossover settings on the amp is set at 50hz hertz. What do you have your headunits bass levels set to. I have non ML system and have to crank the gain on bass to -2 from max setting to get any midbass out of the front door speakers. At low volumes the system is very dynamic, but if i roll the windows down at 50mph crusing i cant get the system to loud enough to clearly hear the music over wind noise.
