LS430: Possible to swap Nav to non-Nav & vice versa?
I tried searching but could not find what I was looking for.
I am looking to purchase a 2004-2006 LS 430.
Alot of the cars I am looking at have the Factory Nav installed.
Well I want to install my own Nav, DVD, Headunit, amps, etc, etc.
My question: can I swap out the factory Nav, Screen, Climate Controls, Headunit, etc with another LS that does not have the factory Nav?
I will need to find a Climate Control unit, vents etc without the factory nav. If I find one, will I be able to install directly into a car that previously had the factory nav?
And this would also apply in reverse. Would a non-factory Nav car be able to install a factory Nav unit, Climate Controls, Headunit, etc?
Hopefully I explained it well enough.
Please let me know.
Thanks, Tom

You can do either swap, but there are caveats:
1) they use completely different harnesses
2) the harness is prohibitively expensive
3) you need to rewire from stem to stern
It's been discussed a few times, but the cost overrides the desire to swap out. Why not just buy one that isn't outfitted with navigation already if you have your own gear? I'm sure you can find one without, and it will probably come closer to your price range without that packaged in since it's quite pricey from the factory to include it.

Big Mack,
1 problem is that the color combo I want only comes in the UL which has the factory nav.
What about this?
- leave the factory nav screen in the car to run just the climate controls.
- remove the factory head unit and replace with another DVD/ Nav headunit and install all my speakers, amps etc to that.
I would have 2 screens in the car, 1 for all my stereo controls, dvd, nav etc
while the stock one to run the heater controls.
Would that work?

In all honesty, I don't know if it would work or not. It sounds doable if you're willing to do all the work of rewiring. If you're going to leave the screen, though, and the ML amp works, why not just use a LOC and output the sound to your amps/speakers that way? I realize this means relying on the ML amp to maintain it's life, but I would think it would be 1) cheaper and 2) look more integrated than having a screen and another screen sliding out in front of said screen. I can't imagine that being pulled off with any kind of quality look.

I plan on running new amps, speakers, subs etc.
The aftermarket headunit/screen will be in place of the factory headunit and cd changer. I will be flush mounted and not a flip up.
I will look like 2 screen over each other.
Basically like this (from top of dash down)
- Factory Screen and Climate Controls
- Air Vents
- Aftermarket Screen/Headunit
- Lower wood dash with suspension, seat controls etc
Just trying to think out of the box for a possible solution.
