ok ...

i wanna upgrade my sound system...

Whats the best speakers i can get ?? for the front (front doors) (what size??)

The best for the Rear (rear doors) What size is it?

Rear Sub im prolly gonna go ahead and remove and get a custom box built .... with either

2 kicker 12inch Squares L7
Or
3 kicker 10's square L7's

With

a PPI AMP powering them...

Is that a good setup for the trunk or you guys gotta better idea??

Let me know Thanks...

BTW im gonna be running stock headunit... and mayub stock amp for the interior speakerS??? or should i change the amp??

ORRRRRRRR

Should i just change the interior speakers... get a amp for them... get a free AIR sub for the back... and get a seprate amp for that... ?? (cheaper.... so i can do other mods )

camren it all depends on what your looking for are you going for SQ or SPL, and how much are you planing to spend, as for getting the best front and rear speakers and leaving the stock headunit thats basicly defeating the purpose of getting better speakers, music sounds alot diffrent with aftermarket decks

as for kickers Im not a big fan of those subs, If you want some real thump then go with Brahma's or mmatts jugernaught

so new interior speakers and a new sub for the rear and new amps for both isnt gonna help??

ok lets say this...

What would i need to make a good nice sounding system?

1. What set of speakers for the front?
2. what set of speakers for the back?
3. What Amp (watts?) to get for those?
4. What Sub to get for the rear?
5. What amp to get for it?? (watts?)

and are the front tweeters (ina GS) do they need an amp also or is hooked directly to the headunit??

i really dont wanna go threw the pain of changing head units and making my interior look crapy...

ill chage the headunit when i get tv's etc...

new speakers with stock HU will make a HUGE difference
make sure you use some good line converters
I use soundgate loc's in my car
and believe me there is a huge difference in sound compared to the stock speakers

Come see me...we'll go talk.

I compete in USACi in SQ and my friends compete in USACi SPL. We'll figure what you want and at least get you going.

Todd

PS...MMATS and Brahmas are SPL subs and are not made to play continuous. They are competition "Burp" subs without the cooling necessary for extended play.

Exclamation Up To U!

Cam - I'm with Erick on this one. My first system used the factory Pioneer H/U but I changed the 4" door speakers out for 2 sets of Diamond Audio HEX 5.25" componets & put a RF 4 channel amp on them. Then I removed the factory free-air junk sub & replaced it with a JL IBU-10 & put another RF 2 channel amp on it. It's been awhile but the sub took a Punch 360a2 & the doors had a Punch 800a4 on them as best I recall - my memory AIN'T what it used to be & they don't make Viagra for it!!
The system sounded awesome for such a basic upgrade. After all, speakers are what reproduce the sound & what your ears hear. I also go with Rico that an aftermarket headunit is better ( if for no other reason, it has more line voltage; thus a cleaner signal ). If U want SPL, then go for a sealed or ported box with some of those subs Rico mentioned. I'm also not a big Kicker fan but I'll give the devil his due - the NEWER L7's slam!! I've also been playing with the new JL W7's & am impressed from an SPL standpoint but I NEVER buy anything in it's first year of production because the manufacturer doesn't always get it right the first time. Witness the original L7's - they worked great for a month or so & then the surround glue gave out & U had to replace the sub ( mostly under warranty but still a pain ). Now it seems that Stillwater has the build quality under control. As far as speaker size goes, a standard 6.5" is about as large as U can go in the front doors due to mounting depth ( although I have squeezed a Focal 7" in mine ). The back doors will accommodate at least an 8" driver ( I have a Diamond Audio 8" midbass back there with plenty of room ). Just decide on your system goals ) SQ or SPL ) & budget then go from there.

It sounds like you are getting close to deciding. If it were me I would probably put a smaller component set in the rear. With just 8s the rear passengers will have a lot of bass and little highs.
Like Gene said, decide if you want loudness or clarity and then set a budget. From there it will be a lot easier to build your system.

Question 8" Rear Speaker

Cam - I wouldn't install an 8" mid in the rear doors unless U plan to compete. As Sirs said, it'll drag the soundstage backward & requires a large amp just to power them ( I have almost 800 WRMS total on mine ). Remember that I designed my system to compete in USACi events. I'd just put another set of Diamond components in the rear doors & be done with it. That way the rear seat passengers will have some highs & midranges instead of just being hammered with extra bass. I installed some switches in my console to shut off any amp I choose so I play just the kick panels & front door speakers in the SQ portion of competitions & then during the SPL part I play only the 8's & dual 12's while shutting down the 2 amps powering the kicks/front doors. Everything runs thru my Symmetry so I've got different crossover & EQ curves stored in memory ( depending on what i trying to do with the system ). Just duplicate my first basic system & I think U'll be pleased!

Damn Gene...running old school...that symmetry was a great piece. I just picked up an Orion DEQ-30 that reminds me alot of it. At the push of a button I can go from "normal" listening, to competition set-up, to SPL and I have one setting left to play around with.

Cam...I agree with the 8s in the rear doors, it would definately destroy your soundstage. Although I have seen them successfully used, I personally do not care for the Diamonds, but that is your decision. My favorites are the Quarts. Specifically because of the way the tweeters perform. Just keep in mind that installation and application are 90% of how anything will sound.

Email me today or tomorrow, I won't be near a computer all weekend starting Thurs., I am doing some hardcore tweaking and cleaning, plus we are working on 5 SPL vehicles, trying to get a head start on Texas Heatwave. I'd love for you to drop by the shop.

Gene, will you be at Heatwave? Are you going to the TX State Championship this weekend?

Thumbs down Not THIS Year, Da**it!!

Todd - I keep getting notices from the Texas USACi about Heatwave but won't be able to make it this year for two reasons;
1) Gotta BIG waterflood project going on offshore that I'm the
project engineer over so I'll be spending my July 4th out there.
2) For now, I've removed virtually ALL my equipment ( except
for 2 amps & interconneects - NO subs either!! ) from
the trunk until the wife & I come to an understanding about
where we/I'm going with this car. Might be trading/selling it
for either a T-Bird ( YUCK!- but it's for the wife ) or if not, I'll
decide on whether I keep it & finish ( is it EVER finished? )
the system & performance mods or I just get rid of it & go
back home to a Corvette ( specifically a Z06 ). Not really
sure WHICH way I truly want to go but I'll ALWAYS be a
gearhead!! If I don't get back into competition I'll still frequent
the big shows like Heatwave & Hot Import Nights so maybe
I can meet some of ya eventually. I make it over to Texas alot
but I go down south to AutoGraphics in Bridge City. I've
known the Fukuda brothers for some time thru a fellow
competitor/installer friend of mine down in Lake Charles, LA
so I've let Ainsley help me with tuning the GS occasionally.
Good luck with YOUR ryde & all the others U help set up - let
me know how ya'll do!!

BTW - Why do ya figure that RF discontinued the Symmetry? I always thought it was one of the most versatile pieces of electronics out there & it certainly isn't obsolete!

camren the 6.5" diamond audio hex's wont fit up front there too long according to my installer they would hit your window, your better off with the 5.25" up front and 6.5" in the rear and if your just getting one 12" then go with IDmax awsome subs or maybe a alumapro one of the cleanest hitting sub out there, I heard it next to a JL audio sub and there was no contest the alumapro was way cleaner

Hey Gene, does she want the yellow or the turqouise bird? On a whim, I asked the trophy wife a couple of weeks ago what she considered the best "fun" car out there. Yep, the bird. I sure don't hate it as much as some people here seem to but I hope Ford quality is getting better after sliding recently.

Another old fart in a Z06? Just so doggoned hard to beat them for bang for the buck. The GS still isn't old to me and with a few suspension mods and slowly working through the sound system, just like it more and more. Trying to talk the trophy wife into an LS for her but she keeps wanting me to take an LS and let her have the GS. Maybe the bird is a better compromise...
