Default DVD Navigation system update

I just called my Lexus dealer, and he told me that it would cost $495 for the Navigation system update. I have 2 questions for you guys. First, for those of you who have gotten the update, is the map much more up to date? It seems really out of date here in central Texas, while when I was in California, it seemed fairly accurate. Is the software any different, or is it just a map update? Also, they told me they recommend I hold off on getting the update as there will be a new update in the Fall, but considering how long the last update took, what do you guys think the chances are that there will be an actual update in the Fall? Thanks
