Default how to remove stock radio on SCs???

Good morning!

I wish to upgrade my sound system (just the head unit for now).
Did anyone here remove their stock radio by themselves? How do you do it?

More over, I'd appreciate any recommendation on aftermarket headunit (I'd love to have one of those with a LCD screen )

Oh, I am also considering to install 02' GS stock radio w/RDS but not sure if it will fit (this RDS thing rocks!, it displays station names as well as the name of the song being played and all)

Thanks!

It's very easy to remove the oe receiver, do a search, I posted specific instructions. A screen is the only way to go IMO, several members here (including myself) use the Alpine CVA-1000/CVA-1005, you get many great features, including Alpine's Ai net, check into it. You'll need to fabricate a 1.5DIN panel to fill the space below, let me know if you need instructions, you have many choices for material, mine is made from carbon fibre. The other option is to fill the entire 2.5DIN space with a stationary screen, several CL members have also done this (i.e. 'Emerald' and 'SC300TURBO').

The removal is easy.
1) Shift car to Neutral pull down bottom plastic on shifter, two screws, pull off shifter.
2) Pull cup holder (rear) no screws
3) reach under and push up on shift plate (auto) no screws 4 corners have stiff clips
4) unscrew frame, unclips from dash side.
5) wah lah, easy deal.

If you want a DVD, I installed a Clarion unit that does it all with screen and was surprised to find that it looked better than the Panasonic, Kenwood, and Alpine video. Also it was the only one to play mp3's, videoCD's, and DVDs copied or new.

i just checked some receivers with LCD screen and i will probably go for a double-din sized receiver so i don't have to worry about covering up the space below.

so far i found only one double din receiver with LCD (clarion Max). are there any other double-din sized receiver with LCD?

Thanks.

Unfortunately there are no other double din units with a screen built in except the clarion max.

I have that same unit in my SC and it fits really well except for the half din space left at the bottom. On mine I fabbed up a piece which incorporates two addtional tweeters and then covered the whole piece with black speaker cloth and installed it in that space.

Heres a pic. I think it was discontinued this year but you can find them on-line real easy, just put in a search on any engine.

Thx.

Yes it has CD, Cassette and Tuner. I can post folded pics later since I dont have any at work. The screen itself is also adjustable while in use. I just put it straight for that picture, normally I have it tilted up a few degrees. I got it a while back for 800. Didnt know about the eclipse model or would have given it a look. I was just trying to have a screen and not have it cover up the ac controls.
