Default KVT now installed..pics!

Well, as promised, I got home yesterday and installed my KVT-911 today. I have to say I really love this unit! Let me know what you think of my install. The color is close, but not close enough for me, I will be posting updated pics next week when I have the color match paint back from the paint store.

NICE!!
The shape of the trim plate is perfect..even got that curve on the bottom ...did you cut that yourself? Can't wait to see a color match...good luck with that..
Please let us know how you (or the installer) made that..I'm sure a LOT of people would love to have it look like that...
TIA

Ok, first of all, a good friend of mine made the trim piece and I installed it. Without giving away too many of the secrets behind it, it did take many hours to complete, a heat formed piece of abs is used as a base, then add hours of bondo and wet sanding and some of his *magic touch* and viola! The pics truely do this kit no justice, as it really is the best custom kit I have ever witnessed. The radio is inset about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in, making it appear even more factory, and when the screen is out, it lies just infront of the heater a/c controls. I am now thinking about painting it (and the heater a/c controls) to look like the new sportline dash does! Give it just a bit more of a custom touch to it.

We have talked about people wanting a kit like this, and my friend has agreed to make them on a per order basis, but due to the amount of labor to make it, it won't be cheap. PM me if you are interested, we do plan to ship them out painted to stock color match ready to go.

Cool LCD Deck

that looks really clean, good work on the install. does it get a lot of glare during the daytime?

i've been thinking about getting an LCD deck. however, would it be better to mount the deck according to when the screen is out, so that the whole unit is centered, or when the screen is in and centered like GS3InPhx?

THe only reason there was glare was because the sun was at my back, and the doors were open for pictures I haven't had much glare problems at all with it so far.

Navigation - No I don't have it yet, but YES I do have plans to get it soon.

Default custom trim piece

hey i just got a radio installed in my first gen gs, what is this piece of abs youre talking about? my friend thinks he can make me a kit by using all bondo? couple of layers then wet sanding it and painting it with primer paint and clear coat.. but i want more of a plastic look to it kinda like yours, howd you do that?after you get the piece done, what did you do to paint it, thanks for any help

Well, the kit is actually a heat formed piece of plastic, then layers of bondo wetsanded perfectly flat, primered, then painted a matching (close as I could find at the time) paint from a hobby store. No clear was used, because it would look too shiney, and wouldn't match the factory OEM look. We also built in a secondary ledge for the radio to sit in, so it fits more flush with the dash for a more factory look.

the kit looks great. I was planning on just going back to the factory unit, but I sold mine. What would you charge for this kit, and if it is too high for me, would you just have a factory head unit for a 1998 GS300?
