ok, what happened is that he misunderstood that this car needed two units if using xpresskit. xk01 for door locks and trunk release, etc....and the pkall for immobilizer. Right now the alarm is installed without the pkall until I can get my hand on one but the car will still start! What was done for a temp fix was 1 key is zip tied to the ignition and hidden under the panel. I still have to put the other key in the ignition and turn it when I'm ready to go but hey, it works! So until my pkall comes in, I'm still starting the car with remote start, just losing one key as if I were using the 568u or whatever box from DEI.

In conclusion, preference is always of first choice but when going with xpresskit, you will need 2 modules. the xpresskit xk01 AND the xpresskit PKALL. UNLESS you go ghetto like I've done for now until my pkall comes in.

Actually you still only need one module. I mentioned earlier that the pkall would definately be needed. The xk01 is for installers that are too lazy to build a relay for the trunk pop and too lazy to go into the drivers door and tag straight negative door locks and diode isolate the lock detection wire through a relay.

I'll use xk01's (actually HA modules from idatalink) but the customer should always be informed of what they are getting and the cost involved.

I don't know all the finer details of your install arrangement but it wasn't mandatory that you purchased the xk01's.

Your installer should be ashamed of himself for saying he only needed one module and that one being the xk01.

Also, if you were ok with burying a key anyway he could have used a TBXKEY and saved you money!!!!!!

is there any negatives to using XK01 to manage the door lock/unlock, trunk pop and door pin??? for my other cars i have always used relays for trunk pop and tapping the door pin for dome light supervision... but if the XK01 can save me time from having to dig into the doors, then im happy to spend the $30 and just connect the purple wire for the XK01...

all i can think of is that it is another possible point of electronic failure, but i have had plenty of relays fail on me...

kewl... next question... i have always done W2W connections with everything, solder'd and heat shrunk... i am getting mixed reactions from 12volt and other forums i frequent, but have you used the D2D with any success?

for my 2GS install i was planning to run a 5901... XK01->5901 via D2D, and the PKALL->5901 via W2W...

Personally I use AutoPage with the idatalink modules mostly. The D2D on those works great everytime. The few DEI units I have used with xpresskits (DEI also) have worked just fine too. Our shop hasn't had any problems with the D2D connection that I'm aware of.

Simple all you need is 3 pkall's, plan to be spending about 300-400 per install. thats the going rate for bypass module programming relay+wiring for trunk pop + remote start programming. 2nd gen gs remote starts are time consuming if u actually spend time to do it right an solder the connections that need to be.

ain't that the truth...

i finally started my Alarm/RS install yesterday.. i'm about 5 hours in and sore from having to fold myself up like a pretzel... about halfway done now... most of the time was due to having to take apart every door panel to run the door trigger... it is a pain, but i had the driver door open anyway to build the door lock relay...

i'll eventually try to do a write-up for anyone thinking about DIY...
