Default Speakers going bad

My wife drives a 2002 SC430 with the Mark Levinson stereo. Some of the speakers are starting to crackle.

What is the best approach with regard to replacement?

- go back with OEM - is there a market for them or is dealer only fix?

- replace with an aftermarket brand. Are there manufacturers out there that supply the sizes for the SC430? if so, is there one brand better than another?

Will take any suggestions, thanks

Replace with aftermarket drop ins. Inexpensive and better sound. I believe the doors are 6.5" or 6.75". 8" behind the seat. And 4" in the rear side seat panels. All are common sizes that many manufacturers make.

Default Thanks for the response

I did check ebay and found that replacement OEM 6" woofers are over $200 each. I believe I have some twetter replacements to do as well.

Is there a recommendation for a particular aftermarket brand best suited for the SC430?

I did some searches here and fond that it is important to match ohms with the replacement speakers and that not all of the OEM speakers are the same.

It is important to match the imepdance of the speakers so they work with the ML amp. Use a Multimeter to check the resistance of your stock speakers and find matching aftermarket units.

Pioneer Premier make some very good cost effective alternatives. If you were to go with components the ds-1720c (pioneer version - i don't know the premier variant) were ranked higher than the Focal Utopia Be units by Car Audio & Electronics.
