Which sound proofing material is better?

This is a follow up to post #22 above, where I showed a photo of my RAAMmat job on my rear seating area. Now, 2 1/2 years later, I had the occasion to remove my rear seats again to route the wire for my Sirius satellite radio antenna. As you can see from the photo below, there were a few areas where, in the heat of the summer, the asphalt material softened to the point where it oozed out. This is not too big a deal usually, since the mat is in areas that are not visible.
But it was avoidable (or minimized, at least) if I had started laying the mat from the top down, rather than the bottom up. That way, you'd "seal up" the upper panels by overlapping the bottom edge, cutting off the opening where the asphalt can ooze out (think roof shingles). Something to keep in mind when matting vertical panels in the future.
