Default 98 LS400 DVD Nav Crash

My 98 LS400 has given me the "Hard Drive Failure" message. Unit is still working. It does a reboot about every 30 minutes of driving.

I feel everyone's pain about getting a DVD update. I am on the list to call when it conmes out. That has been over a year now. It might be a mute point now.

Is there anyone that repairs these DVD Nav units?

Has anyone heard of being able to replace the 98 unit with a unit from a newer LS400/430?

Sounds like you need a new Hard Drive for your 98 LS400. Has a lexus tech pulled codes on your car yet? Is your 98 out of warranty? (4yrs/50K)

DVD NAV UPDATE: I'm assuming you have another car, since the 98 LS400 has a different nav system. The DVD update is customer pay and has been out for sometime. Call your dealer.

DVD nav units are not repaired at the dealers. They simply swap parts from old to new. Then they are sent back to DENSO for repairs.

I have not seen anyone swap systems yet. Too many things integrated with the nav. Your better off swapping cars.

Thanks for the feedback DevilDog.

The 98 LS is my only Lex. The system says that it's a DVD system.

As far as the Update, I talked to the dealer about an update back in Jan 02, when the car had 43K on her. I called monthly till June, then just gave up.

Guess I will have to go to the dealer for a swap. MAybe they can throw in the Update as good will (hahahaha)
