Default Stereo advice needed...thanks!

I have a '00 GS400 and I think it's FINALLY time to start to replace the door speakers. EVERYTHING audio related is stock...well, I have a sub box w/ (2) 12" RF's and a 1000w Kenwood Amp used for the subs (those are not in the car right now). The headunit is stock; may upgrade soon also to a double-din nav/dvd type.

My question is what door speakers can I get for the front doors and rear doors that are pretty good; all for under $300 bucks? I don't even know the sizes of the speakers either. If I had to guess 5.25" in the front doors and 6.5" in the rear doors...is this right? Eventhough it won't be high-end stuff in this price range, it would make a world of a difference from what I have now...my speakers sound like they're on the way out. lol

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you can use 6.5's in all doors. i just yesterday removed mine from all doors. the fronts have the seperate tweeter, and the rear door you'll have to put the mid and tweeter together if you choose to have tweets in the rear doors. the stock speaker "pods" in the doors didn't work for my after market speakers, because the speakers were too deep, so i had to have custom mounting plates made, but its no big deal. I'd suggest only that if you're going to do it, do it right the first time, spend the money now. I did mine when the car was 3 months old in 2001 and i never had to service anything again since. Well worth the investment.

Polk/Momo
Alpine Type R's

There are others, I'm just tired right now....

Imagedynamics makes some really nice speakers, you can pick up 4" replacements on ebay for $99. If you want to go larger I have heard great things about the morel maximo series. Great for the price point I hear.
